Brothers and Sisters,
On October 2, hundreds of thousands of average Americans will descend upon Washington, DC to make a loud, clear and powerful statement. "We demand the change we voted for in 2008 – we demand a government and an economy that works for everyone in America – we won't settle for less – and we're not going anywhere."
The march and rally have been called by One Nation Working Together, a new coalition of organizations across the progressive spectrum that has come together to fight back – to put America back to work and to pull America back together. The purpose of the rally is to unite workers, trade unionists, students, retirees, and all Americans of good will to stop the assault of hate that is being pedaled to divide this country and deter us from our goals. It will show that we are many and diverse – but strong and united and together we WILL fight for the American dream.
On October 2, I want the Utility Workers Union of America to be there in numbers and in strength -- in a show of force like none we have ever shown before. I want to load members on buses, in vans, in car pools. I want 1000 UWUA members to be there in our nation's capitol, standing together and sending our message loud and clear.
I am counting on you to work with our local union leaders to motivate and mobilize our members to participate in this historic event. Stewart will brief you on the details in Monday's conference call. In the meantime, attached is some information about One Nation and the October march. This nation stands at a critical crossroads and we can't afford to sit back on our heels. "Working people can make a difference when we rely on ourselves and act collectively. We are America. And together we can make our voices heard."
